Timely information during emergencies is important. AlertHouston delivers critical information to Houston residents regarding current conditions, expected impacts, and protective actions to keep you and loved ones safe. Register for alerts through email, text message or voice call.

Do you or anyone you know need assistance during an emergency event? Register for State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) if you or a loved one:

• Have limited mobility
• Have a sensory disability
• Require additional medical assistance during an emergency event
• Require transportation assistance
• Require personal care assistance

Emergency Operations Center Activation Level

ACTIVATION LEVELS

We are at LEVEL III Increased Readiness to monitor severe weather

LEVEL IV:

Normal Operations

This activation level means the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is conducting normal day-to-day activities and the Emergency Operations Center is not activated.

LEVEL III:

Increased Readiness

OEM has increased monitoring and the Emergency Operations Center may be activated with key staff from responding departments to monitor a credible threat, risk, or hazard.

LEVEL II:

HIGH READINESS

OEM has activated the Emergency Operations Center to provide increased support for coordinated efforts between key agencies engaged in the emergency.

LEVEL I:

MAXIMUM READINESS

Our Emergency Operations Center is fully activated and staffed with primary support departments and organizations, along with State and Federal representatives. The Emergency Operations Center is operating on a 24-hour schedule.

STEAR Registration

Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency?

The state of Texas presents the STEAR program. The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with additional information on the needs in their community. Texas communities use the registry information in different ways.

*Registering yourself in the STEAR registry DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency.

Houstonians with access and functional needs are advised to register with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) and update their information daily.

The STEAR program is a free registry for Texans of any age that need additional assistance during an emergency event due to access or functional needs or lack of transportation for evacuation. The STEAR registry assists local emergency plannersand responders with information about the needs of individuals in their community.

STEAR is intended for people with access and functional needs such as:

People with limited mobility
People who have sensory disabilities
People who require additional medical assistance during an emergency event
People who require transportation assistance
People who require personal care assistance

The information that is shared through STEAR should be updated regularly every day to ensure information is up-to-date. Last minute registrations prior to a weather event or emergency may not reach local emergency.
